Scott McDonald separates Old Firm

Scott McDonald overcame his extra poundage in Saturday’s Glasgow derby at Ibrox, proving that you don’t need to be slim to blast the ball into the back of the net. Click below to watch the video.

The Australian striker won the game for Celtic with his half volley - the only goal of the match. McDonald was able to take the ball on his chest and turn, despite the close attendance of Rangers’ Kirk Broadfoot.

Boruc blunder

There was no sunshine on Leith for Celtic yesterday. The SPL leaders lost 2-0 to Hibernian at Easter Road, thanks in no small measure to some calamitous goalkeeping from Artur Boruc. The increasingly accident-prone Pole gifted Hibs the opener ten minutes into the second half.

What a howler. Easily Boruc’s worst mistake in a Celtic shirt and proof positive that he’s not the keeper he was two seasons ago. John Rankin’s shot travelled fully 45 yards before it bounced in front of goal. Boruc had plenty of time to get his body behind the ball.

The Hoops had been hoping to win their 13th league game on the trot in Edinburgh. Their next opponents - Hearts - have won five games on the bounce. It’ll be interesting to see how Boruc copes at the weekend.

Davie Cooper keepie-uppie magic

The Drybrough Cup was a pre-season knockout competition played in Scotland during the ’70s. It’s not well-known - even north of the border - but older fans will remember the 1979 final for this incredible Davie Cooper goal.

The winger lifts the ball over the heads of four Celtic defenders before passing it into the net. Bhoys and ghirls who are easily upset should give this video a miss.

Rangers triumphed with a 3-1 win over their Old Firm rivals. This turned out to be the penultimate Drybrough Cup. The tournament was wound up in 1980 with Aberdeen being the final club to have its name engraved on the trophy.
