This is a brilliant and really sneaky free-kick from the Ukrainian football league. But should the referee have disallowed the goal?
It’s an indirect free-kick, so the player who touches the ball first is only allowed to make contact with it once. I think that the scoop ought to count as more than one touch and that the ref got it wrong. Sorry to be such a killjoy.
Google won’t reveal the name of the scorer or the clubs involved. Does anyone know?
Barcelona went top of La Liga on Sunday night with a 2-0 win over struggling Recreativo Huelva. This video shows Barça’s opening goal - a cleverly worked free-kick.
The Recreativo defence - expecting a cross - completely overlooked Lionel Messi, who was hiding behind the wall. The Argentinian suddenly appears as Xavi Hernández plays the disguised pass into the box. It was Messi’s seventh league goal this season.
Recreativo are in trouble: one win in 11 games has left them second-from-bottom.
Alessandro Del Piero turned the clock back on Wednesday night with a virtuoso Champions League performance. The Italian striker, who is 34 today, grabbed two goals as Juventus defeated Real Madrid 2-0 in Spain.
The video highlights show both strikes, including the second-half free-kick which sealed the points for Juve. You’ll also be able to see the incredible reaction of the home fans to Del Piero’s performance. Despite being the architect of Real’s downfall, the Bernabéu crowd rose as one to applaud him off the pitch when he was substituted in injury time.

All right, so it was hard to see the booking. But the referee did show a yellow card to the goalscorer, Chipstead’s Daryl Coleman. His strike gave the Ryman League side a lifeline in their FA Cup qualifying tie against Torquay United. Chipstead trailed by one until the 87th minute when two quick goals by the Gulls saw them progress to the next round as 4-1 winners.
