Felipe Caicedo backheel

Sunday afternoon saw big-spending Manchester City suffer the indignity of being the first Premiership team to lose to West Brom in 11 matches. The Blues’ only consolation in defeat was this impudent Felipe Caicedo strike.

At least, it would have been a consolation had the Premier League not marked it down as a Scott Carson own goal. The thinking seems to be that Caicedo’s backheel came off the post and struck Baggies keeper Carson on the back before going into the net. I can’t say I see it myself. The ball definitely took a deflection before it hit the woodwork, but did it really bounce off Carson? Maybe the Dubious Goals Committee will take a look.
