Le Tissier magic
The ‘96-’97 Premiership season ended with Manchester United winning their fourth league title in five years. They finished seven points clear of Newcastle United - too strong and too consistent for the opposition. But that didn’t stop them getting skelped 6-3 at the Dell. Matt Le Tissier scored the pick of the Southampton goals that day, chipping Peter Schmeichel from the edge of the area.
Although United also got to the semifinals of the Champions League that season, the Saints put more goals past them than any other team.

I’d forgotten about that one. It’s a beauty.
My favourite Matt Le Tissier goal is the 40-yarder he scored at Ewood Park. I think that was the year Rovers won the league.

Ah, that makes me long for the good old days when all Premiership footballers weren’t coiffeured pretty boys. You had Matt Le Tissier, Peter Beardsley, Ian Dowie… Great stuff. :-)
