David Bentley golazo

This is the highlight of Tottenham’s eight-goal spectacular with Arsenal last month. Ex-Gunner David Bentley takes one touch on the volley and lashes the ball in the net from the best part of 40 yards.

Not exactly hot of the press, I know, but there was an even better goal scored on Wednesday 29th October. This other strike was so good that I posted a video clip of it at the time and forgot all about Bentley’s wonder goal.

Rémi Mareval hit the back of the net for FC Nantes about an hour before Bentley scored at the Emirates. The Frenchman’s goal was an equally long-range effort, but there was no hint of dodgy goalkeeping from Manuel Almunia. Mareval’s pile-driver was unstoppable.

Sadly for Spurs fans, Tottenham couldn’t hold onto the early advantage Bentley provided. Arsenal responded strongly and played their way into a 3-1 lead. But Spurs, reinvigorated under Harry Redknapp, refused to roll over and the game finished in a 4-4 draw.

I prefer the French goal (in the hope that it makes me seem cultured and sophisticated.)

Mareval’s goal is best. Givin’ it some beats a looping shot every day of the week.
