Black Cats in need of luck

Sunderland’s Kieran Richardson managed the impossible on Saturday with this free-kick.

Partial credit for the last bounce off the post goes to Fulham keeper Mark Schwarzer. Even so, hitting the woodwork three times with one shot and still not scoring is terribly unlucky.

Richardson’s day didn’t get any better in the second half. In the 54th minute, he knocked the ball into the net from another free-kick. But the referee ruled out the goal, adjudging Pascal Chimbonda to have backed into the Fulham wall.

The game finished as a thoroughly entertaining 0-0 draw.

Oooh! Hard lines, Kieran. The disallowed goal in the second half should have stood. No way was that a foul.

Agreed. Richardson will get a goal from a free-kick next match. Must do, surely.

    From the BBC text commentary:

    “1418: GOAL Sunderland 2-1 Newcastle
Blast-off. Kieran Richardson takes a couple of steps and belts the free-kick into the top corner. A rocket if ever I saw one - and perhaps just reward for Richardson, who managed to hit the post three times with a free-kick against Fulham last week, and had another disallowed.”

Big Ted = clairvoyant. Did you have a wee bet on it?

What a pillock. I should’ve had some money on him scoring. Easy to say that now. What a goal it was though! A real net-burster.

I wonder what price you could have got. I’ll try and find out, make you feel better. :-)

Somebody at work told me that I could have got 7/1. That would have just been for a goal at any time. No’ from a freekick. Dunno if I believe the bawbag. Think he’s trying to wind me up.
