Gale-force winds halt match

Qualifying for the 2010 World Cup continues this weekend. Some of the countries which make the finals will play their group games at Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg. They’ll be hoping the host nation sorts out the advertising hoardings before the tournament begins.

Two players and a linesman were injured by the ad boards. They were able to continue after receiving treatment, but the match between Orlando Pirates and Black Leopards was abandoned a short time later because of a lightning storm.

Bloody hell! One of those boards could have your head off. I wonder what they were made from…

Must be something really light for them to get whipped about so much.
