Ghost goal

Saturday’s Championship game between Watford and Reading ought to end the debate on goal-line cameras. Why bother when referees can’t even tell when the ball is in between the posts?

Stuart Atwell awarded a goal to Reading on the advice of his nearside linesman, who thought the ball had gone into the net. The match finished in a 2-2 draw, so even though the decision effectively cost Watford a couple of points, the Football League says there won’t be a replay.

There’s a collection of clangers from men in black on this site. Some decisions are just plain wrong. Some are miserly. But there’s only one which comes close to the incompetence of Saturday’s ghost goal.

We were fleeced. That moron cost us two points. God only knows what they could be worth at the end of the season.
